Welcome to Florence Middle School!

My name is Jon Ray Russell and I am the 7th grade School Counselor at Florence Middle School. I’m originally from Arab, AL where I graduated from Arab High School. From there, I attended the University of North Alabama on a Cross Country scholarship.

I received my Bachelors degree in Secondary Education from the University of North Alabama, and I’m currently entering my eleventh year in education. Personal and professional experiences led me to pursue counseling. In 2019 I graduated from the University of West Alabama with my Masters degree in School Counseling. For the past two years, I have served as the School Counselor at Weeden Elementary School. Prior to Weeden, I served as a teacher in both middle school and high school settings. Throughout this time, I taught 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade History. Regardless of my role, my goal has always been to help students overcome challenges, while also identifying their individual strengths. 

My wife Brittany is a registered nurse. Together we have three children: Emory, Chandler, and Hudson.
